Crepes: Fancy is Easy!

Anyone can make crepes!  It is easier than pancakes I think. This is a recipe that you can make the night ahead, so if you are sleepy in the morning breakfast is ready to go! This is a recipe that will please your guests with very little prep time.  With the help of the joy of cooking here is the recipe:

3/4 cup flour (depending on the amount of liquid from your eggs you may need to add a bit more)
    1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp double acting baking powder
2 T powdered sugar (or granulated...what ever you have)
    2 eggs
    2/3 cup 1% milk
    1/3 cup water
    1/2 tsp vanilla

1. Steps mix the dry ingredients together.
2. Mix the wet together.
3. Gently which both together.  Don't worry about the lumps.  The mixture will seem runny and that is what you want.
4. The first crepe is a test.  I usually use a 1/4 cup of mixture for each 5-6 inch crepe.  Pre- heat your stainless pan to med-high.  Put a small amount of butter and let it melt.  Pour the crepe mixture and tip the pan around to let the mixture spread. When you see little holes in the mixture it is time to flip.  The crepes are thin so each side will take less than a minute or so!  By the third crepe you will be a pro!

ok no excuses!  time to make crepes!

Serve with Champagne and OJ.

My Fav fillings:

nutella and banana
powered sugar and butter
eggs and cheese
fresh fruit and whip cream
maple sryup
smoked salmon and cream cheese is sooo yummy!

Mission Whistler Restaurant Reviews.

My mission is to review every restaurant in Whistler.  Join me as I embark on my Journey.  I have lots of work to do....

This may take me a year or so, but I will do it.  I will also continue with my regular posts of home cooking.  I usually go out once per week and there are a lot of restaurants in Whistler!

21 Steps Restaurant Review
Whistler, B.C.

Anytime that I am taking a group of close friends and family out for dinner, in Whistler, I love going to 21 Steps.  There are several servers who have been there for more than 4 years and each one is always happy to be there. That really says it all! This summer I have taken co-workers and hosted bridal parties.  It is also my first place I recommend tourists to go to when they ask where to go.  I do have other favourite restaurants that I frequent in Whistler, but this is my go to when I want something fancy that is at a great price point.  The wine list is modest.  I do enjoy that there are several wines in the 30-45 price range and the list includes BC wines. The list could include about 10 more BC wines to complete there list. The fall special is $35.00 and it includes: one small plate, one big plate and a dessert (liquid or solid).

Small plates:
Last evening we started with the Queso Fundido ($9.5).  This includes homemade tortilla chips with chilli powder.  The chips were perfectly cripsy and not greasy.  It is served with a cheesy pesto dip topped with pumping seeds.  The pesto part of the dip is a tad oily, but the flavours are amazing.
My other favourites are the Crispy chicken wings, Fried Goat Cheese and Steamed Tiger Prawns.

Big Plates:
My mom and I had our favourite dish: Stuffed Portabello Mushroom ($19).  This dish is pure heaven for goat cheese lovers!  This mushroom is filled with goat cheese, spinach and caramelized onions topped with panko crumbs and a tasty sauce.  It is served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I can't even count the amount of times I have had this dish.

My boyfriend tried the Alberta Bison Flat Iron Steak with a green peppercorn sauce. ($28). "Really Good!!"  A flat iron steak is a cut of meat from the front shoulder not a method of cooking.  This steak is one of the more flavourful cuts, but it is a tougher as it is cut with the grain not across the grain.. so stick to a filet if tender is what you prefer.

My dad had the Roasted half chicken.  It was perfectly cooked!

Dessert:
We shared a Creme Brûlée (7). It had a crispy and sweet exterior just as it should.  Instead it was soooo creamy and tasted like a yummy custard.  do not miss out of this dessert. My liquid dessert was a bailey's and coffee of course!

Wine pairing: Terra Andina- Carmenere- Syrah.  It was a nice pre-dinner sipping wine that also went well with all of our meals.

Fix Cafe

I was standing in line at gone Bakery because I was craving soup.  Then I remember that I had an amazing Chocolate Chip Almond Gluten free cookie at the Fix Cafe in Creekside. So, I got back in my car and headed back to creekside.

It is rare for me to be able to blog as I am tasting, but I am today!  Everything at the Fix Cafe is made in house and if asked they always have an ingredients list.

Today I am having the Coconut Curry Lamb Soup.  The lamb is really tender and yummy. It is filled with potato, carrot and onions as well. It is a perfect soup to warm up as my body tries to adjust to winter.   Today in Whistler it is ever so lightly snowing, but as I type the snow is coming down harder! Whistler Blackcomb is making a boat load of snow, and it will be nice for them to have the help of mother nature to warmly invite everyone for opening day that is in less than 2 weeks.

House Party Best of BC- Cornucopia Whistler BC

November 8th 6-9 pm
Whistler Conference Center.

Sometimes my wine list get out of control so I am going to simply and name my top 3 wines that I tasted at the House Party.

1. Stone Boat Pinotage (24.90) This blend of Cinsaut and Pinot Noir is the type of red that can stand alone.
2. Cellar Hand ($16.00) - Free Run White is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Girs, Viognier, Chardonnay, Semillion and Saviongnon Blanc.  Best wine for a tuesday!!!!
3. Kalala- Harmony Red ($15.95)  - a blend of Tempranillo, Zweigelt and Merlot. This is a beautiful price point for a medium red wine. Of course it had black pepper because I love more savoury tasting wines.

For special occasions I also recommend:
Black Hills Estate Winery: Alibi (25.00) and Black Hills Syrah (35.00)

Notes on the event: To be continued...

Longue Dog- Red Syrah under $15.00

What is your favourite bottle of wine for less that 15.00?

I like Longue- Dog Red from France.  For 12.99 you money goes along way.  You can impress your friends and family on a budget with this red. This wine is also great for getting through hump day.

How does it taste

Fruity, warming and slightly aromatic on the nose (your nose, not the dog’s!). Longue-Dog red is plump with a luscious texture and subtle twist of spice on the finish. It is a fruit-driven style brimming with blackberry flavours, yet underpinned with a backbone that hints at something more serious.

Enjoy!
